Kolkata: The IPL 2026 champion will be decided after four matches. However, four playoff teams have already been decided after 70 matches. Today, in the first qualifier, Gujarat Titans (RCB vs GT) will take on the last time champions Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Dharamshala Stadium. In this match, Titans captain Shubman Gill (Shubman Gill) has a chance to ace the legendary Mahendra Singh Dhoni (MS Dhoni).

Shubman Gill has been in terrific form this season. In 13 matches, Gill scored the tournament’s second-highest 616 runs at an average of 47.38 and a strike rate of 161.67, hitting six fifties. But his opening partnership with current ‘Orange Cap’ owner Sai Sudarshan is going to be crucial if the Titans are to perform well against RCB. This season alone, Gill has a chance to set a big record in terms of runs.

The highest run-scorer in the playoffs in IPL history, ‘Mr IPL’ Suresh Raina. He scored 714 runs in 24 innings in the playoffs stage of IPL. Shubman Gill is currently 239 runs behind him. He scored 475 runs in just 11 innings in the playoffs. Gill can play a maximum of three matches in this season’s IPL playoffs. So it would not be surprising if Suresh Raina took credit for the feat in the way he is. But even if that record is a little short, surpassing Dhoni’s runs is not entirely out of Gill’s reach.

Dhoni is second on the list with 523 runs in 23 innings in the IPL playoffs. But Gill will leave Dhoni behind in this list if he scores only 49 more runs. IPLSuryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma are fourth and fifth in the list of highest run scorers in the playoffs. They have so far scored 406 runs in 13 innings and 405 runs in 23 innings respectively. However, none of these two stars can increase their runs at least this season. Because both the stars play for Mumbai Indians and the Paltans finished at number nine in this year’s league table.
