Sandeep Sarkar, Kolkata: A letter to the Chief Minister. And there, the senior sports administrator of the Maidan, Samar Pal, made noise by making one after another allegations against former CAB president Abhishek Dalmiya. who is the current secretary of the Arian Club. He himself is a former head of CAB. Abhishek fired back. Disproving all the allegations, he raised an explosive question, Samar is not doing this on someone’s advice? All in all, Uttal Bengal is the governing body of cricket.
Chief Minister on Friday Good luckSamar Pal writes a letter to (Suvendu Adhikari). He alleged that Abhishek Dalmiya’s entry into cricket administration was not seamless. Samar alleged that Abhishek became an office bearer of CAB with the help of the erstwhile Trinamool government. More importantly, Samar alleged that after Sourav Ganguly became the president of the Indian Cricket Board in 2019, he was the top contender to become the CAB president. But Abhishek became the CAB president with the help of the then government.
In a letter written to the Chief Minister, Samar alleged, ‘I have seen Abhishek Dalmiya writing a letter to the Sports Minister and posting on social media asking questions about various corruptions in Maidan. I am surprised because he did not mention any specific person, organization or event. However, it seems he is trying to turn the government against a sports body. In which organization he himself was the highest member and according to the Lodha Act now holds no position.’
After that, Samar made an explosive complaint. Wrote, ‘Abhishek Dalmiya was the biggest beneficiary of the Trinamool government. Jagmohan Dalmiya passed away in 2015 and within a week Abhishek was seen visiting the Chief Minister’s office trying to get a post in the CAB. Before that he was not in any committee, did not work for the organization. The then chief minister out of compassion made him CAB secretary, depriving many who had worked for the agency.’
Samar made another sensational complaint. Wrote, ‘In 2017 I became the Vice President of CAB and held that position till 2020. In October 2019, Sourav Ganguly stepped down as the President of the Indian Cricket Board. At that time I was the one who claimed to be the CAB president. I had the support of all the members. But Abhishek Dalmiya again went to the then Chief Minister and confirmed himself as President. After the death of his father Jagmohan Dalmia in 2015, Abhishek served as CAB secretary for four years and as president for three years. No other person has had such a long tenure in the CAB administration. So I request the Chief Minister to look into the complaint raised by this person before taking any decision.’
Soon after Samar’s letter came out, there was an uproar in Maidan. Many people started to say, is the whole CAB power struggle? Many people also think that such a fight has never been seen in the administration of Bengal cricket.
What is Abhishek himself saying about Samar Pal’s complaint? ABP Live Bangla contacted the former CAB president in this regard. He countered with one issue after another and brought Samar Palak to the table. He said, ‘The complaint that CAB did not allow him to stand in the presidential election is completely false. At no time was he barred or asked not to be a candidate. More importantly, Samar Pal claimed that he was not the CAB Vice President at that time as his term had expired in September 2019. And no one becomes a claimant for the post of president only if he is vice president. For that he has to go through the selection process. As far as I know, no one has gone from Vice President to CAB President in the last three decades. The only exception was my late father more than 30 years ago. In the letter, Samar Pal claimed himself as former secretary and vice president of CAB. But he was not a secretary, but a joint secretary.’
Was the support of the majority of CAB members towards Samar as claimed in the letter written to the Chief Minister? Abhishek says in a tone of sarcasm, ‘It is completely his imagination. Baseless claims. History tells us that he repeatedly stood against my father and lost every time. I would have welcomed him even if he voted against me. I would be happy if I could win the position after losing him.’
Abhishek raised a counter question, ‘There is no secret conspiracy or conspiracy behind this complaint at the time? It also seems that he may have done so by someone’s words, advice, influence. Maybe he did it at the word of someone who was somehow involved in the management of the Arian Club.’ Abhishek pointing to whom? He did not want to break himself.
A special general meeting has been called for the election of CAB joint secretary on July 20. July 12 is the last day to submit nominations. Before that, active CAB.
