Lalit Modi has finally cleared legal hurdles to return home. Lalit Modi said on X handle that he will probably be able to celebrate Diwali in India this year. Hosted in South Africa IPL Lalit Modi was fined crores of rupees by the ED in 2009 for allegedly violating the Foreign Exchange Management Act. However, the Appellate Tribunal recently ruled in favor of Lalit.

An emotional Lalit Modi took to social media to write, “Yes, I am finally looking forward to returning to my country. Hope to have a great Diwali in India. Looking forward to meeting old friends and family after leaving India on May 12, 2010. Satyamev Jayate.”

Lalit Modi left India in May 2010 and currently resides in London. Lalit Modi says he will be based in London for now, but is excited to return to India after a decade and a half. In an interview a few days ago, Lalit Modi said that he decided to leave India not because of legal action, but because of death threats from Dawood Ibrahim.

In fact, the Appellate Tribunal overturned most of the ED decisions and fines, giving relief to Lalit Modi. Lalit Modi said that what he has been saying repeatedly for the past 16 years has now been sealed by the court.
