Darren Sammy, the team’s head coach, said it was a big loss for his team. The first match will be played at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad.

“Joseph refused to play in the team. That’s the reality. He was selected. He is now recovering from injury and for the following reasons, he is out of the team,” Sammy said of Algeri Joseph ahead of the series.

Sammy left the decision up to the board

The coach added, “I don’t understand this decision. I leave it to the board officials to find a solution through which the contracted players can opt out.”

A statement issued by the West Indies board at the time of the team announcement stated that Algeri Joseph was unavailable due to personal reasons. But now the coach has revealed something else.
