This report has been presented by America’s organization named Foundation for Aviation Safety (FAS) before the Permanent Investigation Subcommittee of the US Senate.

FAS says that the way the initial investigation reports have pointed towards pilot error, it has been said that an attempt was made to blame the pilots in the earlier Boeing 737 Max accidents also. FAS claims that even in the AI ​​171 plane crash case, attention is being diverted from the real reasons. According to the report, the plane that was the victim of the accident was suffering from technical problems since the first day of its service. The available documents show that complaints of system failure started coming in this plane from the day it reached India on 1 February 2014.

These problems occurred again and again in 11 years of service

FAS has said in its report that there were many shortcomings related to engineering, manufacturing, quality and maintenance in the Boeing 787 program. These include electronic and software malfunctions, frequent circuit breaker trips, wiring damage, short circuits, failure of power supply and overheating of power system components. FAS says that these problems are not limited to any one plane.

FAS has said in its report that this plane came out of the factory in late 2011, took its first flight in December 2013, was handed over to Air India on 28 January 2014 and its first commercial flight took place on 8 February 2014. After this, during the 11 years of service, technical faults were repeatedly recorded in it. The report also mentions incidents like smoke and smell, electrical surge and overheating of the power system.

FAS has analyzed 18 percent of Boeing’s fleet.

It has been reported in the report that in January 2022, there was a fire in the P100 primary power panel of the plane. This caused massive damage to the L2 bus tie breaker and surrounding wiring and the entire panel had to be replaced. Apart from this, in April 2022, due to a malfunction in the landing gear indication system, the plane was grounded and many important parts were replaced. Similar electrical problems have been seen in other 787 aircraft of Air India as well as in 787 planes registered in America, Canada and Australia.

The organization claims that they have analyzed more than 2,000 system failure reports related to Boeing 787, which accounts for about 18 percent of the global fleet. On these allegations, Boeing spokesperson said that it will rely only on the investigation by India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) under the rules of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) of the United Nations.
