In a conversation with GeoHotstar, Gavaskar called Varun Chakraborty a “bowling wizard”. He said, Varun always keeps the batsmen under pressure with different types of deliveries and intelligent bowling. Although Varun looked a bit out of rhythm at the start of the match, he showed his mettle by picking up wickets at crucial times.
Gavaskar also mentioned that Varun’s body language was the most positive aspect of this match. Usually Varun gets a little frustrated when runs are wasted, but today, despite his sixes, there was no lack of confidence. Gavaskar believes that this mental toughness is the hallmark of a great bowler.
Chasing a big target of 238 runs, the Indian team restricted New Zealand to 190 runs. Varun Chakraborty took two important wickets with 37 runs in four overs. He gave a big blow to the QI innings by dismissing Tim Robinson and Mark Chapman, which turned the tide of the match.
Varun Chakraborty is an important member of the Indian team for the upcoming T20 World Cup. With consistent good performances in the current series, he will be looking to strengthen his form and confidence ahead of the World Cup. The second match of the series will be played in Raipur on January 23, where once again the focus will be on this “bowling wizard”.
