Why Morning Sneezing Happens: Getting up in the morning in winter seems like a difficult task. Many people start sneezing as soon as they come out of the quilt in the morning. Most people have to face this problem during cold weather. Many people consider it to be an allergy, while some people consider cold air to be the reason for sneezing. According to health experts, sneezing as soon as you come out of the quilt in the morning is not a serious disease, but there can be many reasons behind it. Often people ignore this problem. If this happens to you too, then know the reason and ways of prevention from the doctor.
Dr. Sonia Rawat, Director of Preventive Health and Wellness Department, Sir Gangaram Hospital, New Delhi told News18. The most common reason for sneezing after getting out of the quilt in the morning is considered to be allergic rhinitis. When you sleep covered with a quilt at night, your body remains warm. There is a sudden change in temperature as soon as you come out of the quilt in the morning. This change stimulates the sensitive nerves inside the nose, which causes sneezing. This problem is seen more especially in winter. This usually does not happen in the summer season.
Doctor Rawat told that the second major cause of sneezing is dust, soil and dust mites. Very tiny particles of dust get accumulated in quilts, blankets, pillows and mattresses. When you move around after waking up in the morning, these particles spread in the air and enter the nose through breath. People who are allergic start sneezing immediately. Apart from this, one reason for sneezing can be direct contact with cold air. The atmospheric air is relatively cool in the early morning. As soon as the quilt comes out, the nose is suddenly exposed to cold air, due to which the body tries to clear the nose by sneezing as a defensive reaction. This is sometimes also called cold trigger.
Experts said that in some people, mucus accumulates in the nose in the morning, due to which sneezing occurs. Lying down overnight causes mucus to accumulate in the nose. As soon as you wake up, the body starts the process of sneezing to expel it. This condition is also seen in common cold or mild allergy. If this happens to a person occasionally, then there is no need to worry about it. However, if this happens in every season, then one should consult a doctor and get checked. The doctor may suggest some medicines based on the report.
According to the doctor, to avoid the problem of sneezing in the morning, dry the quilt and pillow regularly in the sun, keep the room clean and do not come in direct contact with cold air as soon as you wake up in the morning. If sneezing is excessive, lasts for a long time or is accompanied by runny nose, irritation in the eyes and headache, then it is better to consult an ENT specialist. This problem can be easily controlled with proper care.
