It has become clear from the talks between Denmark, Greenland and America that there is deep disagreement between the three regarding the future of Greenland. Meanwhile, many European countries have started sending their troops to Greenland in support of Denmark. The differences came into sharper focus on Thursday, when the White House described upcoming talks with officials from Denmark and Greenland as “technical discussions on a US-acquired acquisition agreement for Greenland.” This statement was completely different from the words of Danish Foreign Minister Lars Loke Rasmussen. Rasmussen had said that this conversation would take place through a working group whose objective is to find ways to resolve differences between the countries.

Which countries sent soldiers?

Even before the talks began, Denmark had announced that it would increase its military presence in Greenland. After this, European countries like France, Germany, Britain, Norway, Sweden and Netherlands have also started sending a limited number of soldiers to Greenland or have talked about sending them soon.

What message does sending troops to Greenland send to America?

European countries say that the purpose of this step is to show that the security of Greenland is possible even without US occupation. He believes that NATO countries can together protect the Arctic region, especially at a time when Russia and China’s interest in this region is increasing. However, White House spokesperson Carolyn Levitt clearly said that this step of European countries has not affected the decision of US President Donald Trump. He said, ‘The President has made his priorities clear. He believes that America should acquire Greenland and that it is in the interest of our national security.

Danish Foreign Minister Rasmussen, along with Greenland’s Foreign Minister Vivian Motsfelt, told on Wednesday that even after meeting with US Vice President J.D. Vance and Foreign Minister Marco Rubio, fundamental differences remain regarding Greenland. He said that both sides have decided to form a high-level working group so that a common way forward can be found. The first meeting of this group is expected to take place in the next few weeks. Meanwhile, France and Germany have also confirmed that they are sending their troops to Greenland. According to Danish government broadcaster DR, Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen has said that in the coming time, soldiers from several NATO countries will be deployed in Greenland on a rotational basis.
