Virat Kohli once again proved his batting excellence in the final match of the three-match ODI series against New Zealand at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. He cemented his position in world cricket by scoring his 54th ODI century in the match. Even though the match did not end with a win for India, Kohli’s innings impressed the cricket lovers.
After this outstanding performance, former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan heaped praise on Virat Kohli. He termed Kohli as India’s best ODI batsman of all time. According to Pathan, Kohli’s biggest strength is his consistency and ability to maintain the same level of performance for a long period of time, something that very few cricketers can do.
Irfan Pathan specifically mentioned that Kohli was considered India’s best ODI batsman from 2013 to 2026. He feels that consistently scoring runs under so many different captains—MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli himself, Rohit Sharma and now Shubman Gill—is testament to his exceptional talent.
Kohli’s fitness and mental toughness were also at the center of praise. Calling him a ‘run machine’, Pathan said his fitness has improved over time. His quickness in the field, patience to build the innings and ability to make runs at crucial moments are still as effective today as ever.
Chasing New Zealand’s target of 338 in the match, Kohli scored 124 off 108 balls, his 85th international century. In the end India lost by 41 runs and the series went to New Zealand 2-1. Yet Virat Kohli’s innings proved that he is still the most reliable batsman in ODI cricket in India.
