Washington: US President Donald Trump on Sunday warned the Caribbean country Cuba. Trump bluntly told the Cuban government that their lifeline from Venezuela is now being cut. Make a compromise with America, otherwise it may be too late. Trump wrote on his social media platform ‘Truth Social’, ‘Zero! Now nothing will be received, now Cuba will neither get oil nor money – zero! Soon after this announcement, he wrote in another post, I strongly advise them to make a deal before it is too late.
What does ‘deal’ mean?
Political analysts believe that the “deal” that Trump is talking about could mean a change of power in Cuba or complete surrender to American conditions. Without Venezuelan oil, Cuba’s power crisis and inflation could worsen, threatening the collapse of its government. The Trump administration wants to take advantage of this weakness to strengthen its hold in the region. This is a step that will take geopolitical tension in Latin America to a new level.
Why is this a matter of ‘life and death’ for Cuba?
This threat is very important because Cuba’s life depends on Venezuelan oil. Havana gets about two-thirds of its energy needs from Venezuela at subsidized rates. If Trump cuts this supply line, Cuba’s energy sector will completely collapse, leading to catastrophic blackouts and economic famine. Politically, this is a direct attack on the existence of Cuba’s communist government. By ‘weaponizing’ Venezuela’s resources, Trump is forcing Havana to kneel or change regime. This is not just an embargo, but a siege of Cuba.
