#California: Oscar and Grammy Award-winning American songwriter Norman Gimbel is no more. He died on December 19 at his home in Montecito, California, family members said.

The cause of death of the 91-year-old singer is not known. The composer of numerous hits including ‘Killing Me Softly’, ‘It Goes Like It Goes’, ‘The Girl From Ipanema’, Gimbel won a Grammy in 1973 and an Oscar for Best Original Song in 1997.

Many songs and theme songs written by him in television and films have also gained skyrocketing popularity He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1984.

Born in Brooklyn, Gimbel began his career with music publishers David Blum and Edwin H. Morris. Among his early popular songs was ‘Canadian Sunset’.

He won a Grammy Award in 1973 with composer Charles Fox for the song ‘Killing Me Softly’. Jennifer Warnes’ song ‘It Goes Like It Goes’ won an Academy Award after 24 years with composer David Shire in the film ‘Norma Rae’.
