(Credit- Reuters)India US Relations: There was already tension in the relations between India and America, but recently America’s MP Lindsey Graham has proposed a bill due to which the tariff on India can increase to 500 percent. Amidst Donald Trump’s continuous rhetoric and threat of this tariff, US Ambassador Gore has reached India. He will give his induction speech on Monday. This address is taking place at a time when tension has increased in the relations between the two countries after the recent statements of America’s Commerce Secretary and President Donald Trump.
Especially the statements made regarding the India-US trade agreement and talks between the leaders have sparked a new political debate. In such a situation, this speech of Ambassador Gore can give important indications regarding the future relations between the two countries and Washington’s stance. His visit is being seen as a mirror of India-America relations. The tension between the two countries has once again increased on the issue of Russian oil because America wants India to stop buying this oil.
US bill on Russian oil may worsen US-India relations
For some time, US President Donald Trump has been continuously targeting those countries which are doing oil trade with Russia. Meanwhile, a well-known Indian American Republican warned on Sunday that the proposed US law targeting countries importing oil from Russia could strain its relations with India. The American businessman warned that the timing and scale of the move could undermine ongoing trade talks between New Delhi and Washington. Ashok Mago, Founder Chairman of Greater Dallas Indo American Chamber, said in a special conversation with IANS that the Greater Dallas Indo American Chamber is now known as the US-India Chamber of Commerce. Mago argued that senators should allow negotiations to reach a conclusion before increasing pressure. He said that 500 percent tariff on India is not a very good idea.
What’s on Lindsey Graham’s bill?
Republican Senator Lindsey Graham’s proposed Russia sanctions bill would give the US President the authority to rapidly increase duties. Earlier this week, Graham claimed to support Trump and said that he has given the green signal to the ‘Russia Sanctions Bill’ of both parties. This will happen at the right time because Ukraine is making concessions for peace and Putin is just talking, killing innocents. This bill would allow President Trump to punish countries that buy cheap Russian oil, which fuels Putin’s war machine. This will give a tremendous advantage against countries like China, India and Brazil. They will stop buying cheap Russian oil, which helps Putin finance his bloodshed against Ukraine.
