Dhaka: Disaster started in Bangladesh cricket after being excluded from the World Cup. Ishtiaq Siddiqui has resigned from the post of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director. Bangladesh had to be excluded due to BCB’s insistence on not coming to India to play the World Cup. Instead of Bangladesh, Scotland got a chance in T20 World Cup. Ishtiaq confirmed to media outlet Cricbuzz that he has submitted his resignation letter to BCB, and that his decision is due to family reasons.
Ishtiaq was known to be a close associate of Bangladesh Cricket Board Chairman Aminul Islam Bulbul. He said, “It is true that I am resigning. I believe, I am not able to devote enough time behind the game, where I am working now, due to my family and personal responsibilities. I am not able to take necessary initiatives to advance cricket. Because of this, I am personally sorry that I cannot do justice to this position. That is why I am resigning.”
Ishtiaq, who also previously served as the chairman of BCB’s development committee, made it clear that he maintains a positive relationship with everyone on the board.
“The claim that I am leaving because of any misunderstanding, relationship problems, or any hardship or grievance is completely wrong. Everyone who was with me tried their best,” he said. Needless to say, whatever Ishtiaq says, the World Cup boycott will have a huge impact on Bangladesh cricket.
