Washington: After a shocking incident in the American state of Minnesota, the politics of the entire country has heated up. An American citizen died after being shot by federal immigration agents. Now, if President Donald Trump is unable to give clarification, he is directly attacking the Democratic government of the state. He called this incident a coverup to hide corruption. Trump alleged that local leaders were creating obstacles in the work of federal officials. The deceased has been identified as 37-year-old Alex Pretty. He was a resident of Minneapolis and an American citizen.

What did Trump say?

Authorities later confirmed that Preti was legally carrying the weapon and had a valid permit. A few hours after the incident, Trump posted on Truth Social and targeted Democrat leaders. He shared a picture of a gun and wrote that this area is a stronghold of Democrats, where federal agencies are not allowed to work. Trump claimed that local authorities deliberately withdrew the police, leaving ICE agents alone.

Trump said the agents had no choice but to protect themselves. He accused city and state leaders of denying help to federal officials. Along with this, Trump also accused the leaders of Minnesota of corruption on a large scale. Taking the name of MP Ilhan Omar, he said that billions of dollars have gone missing from the state.

What did Trump accuse you of hiding?

Trump also claimed that federal officials were there not just for immigration matters, but also to investigate alleged financial scams. According to him, the shooting is being used to divert attention from these allegations. Local and federal officials, on the other hand, have a different story.

What is Trump’s government saying?

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said a 37-year-old man was killed and was legally carrying a weapon. A Department of Homeland Security spokesperson said that when the man approached agents with a gun and resisted attempts to subdue him, agents fired a defensive shot. Senior White House advisor Stephen Miller also said that the agents acted in self-defense. Democrat leaders have strongly condemned this incident. MP Ilhan Omar called it a murder committed by immigration agencies and said that the Trump administration is intimidating communities instead of protecting them. Other Democratic leaders are also expressing similar concerns.

There was a murder earlier too

There is already an atmosphere of tension in Minneapolis. There have been daily demonstrations in the city since the death of a woman named Renee Good during a separate action on January 7. Even after Saturday’s incident, people took to the streets and raised slogans asking ICE to leave the city. State Governor Tim Walz first confirmed the shooting. Vice President JD Vance defended the federal action, saying immigration officials had come to do their job and were being blocked by state leadership.
