Kanpur: In today’s era, we see that whether it is children, youth or elderly, everyone spends most of their time in mobile phones and laptops. From children’s education to our work, we are trapped in the digital world. Most of our work is done on mobile phones or laptops, due to which we have to work on them continuously for many hours. Its direct impact is on our eyes. Our eyes are getting sick. Know which syndrome we are falling prey to and how this syndrome can be avoided.
Mobile, laptop and TV have become our daily needs. Be it office work, studies or entertainment, the habit of watching screens for hours has become common, but continuously watching screens has a bad effect on the eyes. A problem related to this is ‘Computer Vision Syndrome’, which is also called digital eye strain.
This is computer vision syndrome
When a person looks at the screen of a computer, mobile or tablet for a long time, there is more pressure on the eye muscles. Usually we blink 15 to 20 times in a minute, but while watching the screen this number reduces to 5 to 7 times. Blinking less often reduces moisture in the eyes, which leads to dryness, fatigue and irritation. This condition is called computer vision syndrome.
These are its main symptoms
If you have frequent burning or itching in the eyes, your eyes remain red or watery, then be careful. Apart from this, blurred vision, heaviness in the eyes, headache, pain in neck and shoulders can also be its signs. Many people feel stinging or pain in the eyes after watching the screen for a long time.
Easy and effective methods of prevention
Dr. Shalini Mohan, senior eye doctor of Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Medical College, Kanpur, said that if your work is not possible without a screen, then your eyes can be kept safe by adopting some easy habits. First of all adopt 20-20-20 rule. Every 20 minutes, take a 20 second break and look at something 20 feet away. This provides relief to the eyes. Don’t forget to blink while working.
keep your eyes away from the screen
Deliberate blinking of eyelids repeatedly keeps the eyes moist. Keep the screen about 20 to 25 inches away from the eyes and set its brightness according to the light of the room. Too much brightness harms the eyes. If you have to work on a computer all day, then use blue cut or anti-glare glasses as per doctor’s advice.
Also drink plenty of water and include things like carrots, green vegetables, papaya, almonds and walnuts in your diet. If eye pain, irritation or blurring persists, do not apply any eye drops yourself. Get checked by an ophthalmologist immediately. By taking timely precautions, serious eye problems can be avoided.
