Amitabh Bachchan-Hema Malini hit Satte pe Satta: Mumbai. Many films have been made in Bollywood inspired by Hollywood films. Even in the 80s, there were some movies whose stories were inspired by Hollywood movies. One such film starring Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini was released in 1982, which proved to be a blockbuster. The film was liked so much that its collection was Rs 7 lakh on the opening day itself. The music of the film was also a huge hit and it was the highest grossing movie at that time.
The Bollywood superhit we are talking about is ‘Satte Par Satta’. The film was directed by Raj N Sippy and the story of the film was written by Satish Bhatnagar, Jyoti Swaroop and Kader Khan. This 166-minute film was released on 22 January 1982. The film had set new earning records.
The film was the story of 7 brothers, in which Amitabh Bachchan played a double role. Hema Malini was opposite Amitabh. Whereas, the roles of brothers were played by Sachin Pilgaonkar, Sudhir, Shakti Kapoor, Kanwarjit Paintal, Kanwaljit Singh and Vikram Sahu. Apart from this, Ranjita Kaur and Amjad Khan also played important roles in the film.
The film was inspired by the 1954 Hollywood movie Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. This low budget film collected Rs 7 lakh on the opening day itself. At the same time, the total collection of the film was more than Rs 4 crore. This film was included in the highest grossing film of 1982.

Amitabh was seen in a double role in the film. ‘Ravi Anand’ has a jolly nature who takes care of his brothers. Whereas, there is another ‘Babu Sharma’ who works for Ranjeet. Babu is sent to kill ‘Seema Singh’, but he falls in love with Seema. In the film, Hema played the role of love interest of Amitabh’s character ‘Ravi’.
Along with the story of the film, the songs of ‘Satte Pe Satta’ were also a huge hit. Songs like ‘Dukki Pe Dukki Ho’, ‘Pyaar Hume Kis Mod Pe Le Aaya’, ‘Dilbar Mere’, ‘Zindagi Hans Ke Bitayenge’ etc. were huge hits and are heard even today. The music of the film was given by Rahul Dev Burman.
The pairing of Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini in the film was also a hit. After a long time, both of them were seen in the film ‘Baghbaan’, which was a huge hit. After this film, all the actors playing the roles of Amitabh’s brothers also got a new identity.
