ICC T20 World Cup 2026: The Pakistan Cricket Board has handed over the final decision on participation in the 2026 T20 World Cup to Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The Pakistan Cricket Board has handed over the final decision on participation in the 2026 T20 World Cup to Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Whether the ‘Men in Green’ will play in this tournament or not, now depends on the Prime Minister’s decision. According to PCB, the final announcement may come in the next few days.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday (January 26). After the meeting, he said on the social media medium X that the Prime Minister has been informed in detail about all matters related to ICC. He said that the Prime Minister has directed to find a solution keeping all options open. It was decided in the meeting that a final decision on Pakistan’s participation will be taken by Friday or next Monday.
If Pakistan pulls out of the 2026 T20 World Cup, they will be the second team to be eliminated from the tournament. Earlier, Bangladesh also withdrew from the tournament. Bangladesh Cricket Board takes this decision if ICC does not agree to move the match of Bangladesh team to Sri Lanka. The ICC rejected their application after an independent security assessment.
According to ICC rules, if a team withdraws from the tournament, they are replaced by the next highest ranked team that failed to qualify. Instead of Bangladesh, Scotland has already got a chance. If Pakistan pulls out, Uganda will play in their place. Uganda is ranked 21st in the T20 rankings and has won a match in the World Cup once before.
