Dangerous Foods for Diabetes: The problem of diabetes is continuously increasing. The number of its patients has crossed 10 crores in India. Once diabetes occurs, it has to be controlled throughout life. Diabetes patients have to take special care of their eating habits. A little carelessness in eating and drinking can increase blood sugar rapidly. Many times patients take medicines regularly but make mistakes in eating and drinking. Due to this the sugar level becomes uncontrolled. According to health experts, there are some things which diabetic patients should avoid. Consuming these things is harmful.
Kamini Sinha, senior dietitian of Diet Mantra Clinic, Noida told News18. That sugar and sweets made from it are most harmful for diabetic patients. Things like cakes, pastries, sweets, chocolate, ice cream etc. contain a lot of refined sugar, which increases blood sugar suddenly. This puts more pressure on insulin in the body and sugar can go out of control. It is very important to maintain distance from them even during festivals or special occasions.
The dietitian said that things made from flour like white bread, noodles, pizza, biscuits and pasta are harmful for diabetic patients. They contain very little fiber and are quickly digested and converted into glucose, due to which blood sugar increases rapidly. Instead of this, wheat flour, oats and multigrain options are better. Apart from this, cold drinks, packaged juices, energy drinks and flavored milk contain a lot of hidden sugar. These drinks give too many calories and sugar to the body without causing hunger, due to which the blood sugar increases suddenly. Instead of these, drink plain water, lemon water or buttermilk.
Consumption of fried and junk foods is harmful for diabetes patients. Samosa, Kachori, French fries, chips and other junk foods contain bad fat and high calories. These things not only increase weight, but also weaken the effect of insulin. Consuming them for a long time makes it more difficult to control sugar and also increases the risk of heart-related diseases. Fruits are good for health, but very sweet fruits like banana, mango, sapota and grapes should be eaten in limited quantity by diabetic patients. Similarly, dry fruits like raisins, dates and figs contain more natural sugar. Blood sugar can increase rapidly if consumed excessively.
