After widespread public reaction, Gunn released a statement in which he responded to Henry’s ouster announcement.
Along with James Gunn and DC Studios Films co-CEO Peter Safran, he was the first to react to the trend on social media. He said, “When Peter and I started as heads of DC Studios, there were very few people on social media. Today almost everyone is on it. There is a lot of noise on social media and there are also very cruel people there. … “
What is good for the story of the film?
After this, James Gunn talked about removing Henry Cavill from the film. He said, “Our choices for the DCU are based on what we believe is best for the story; what is best for the DC characters, which is what DC has been doing for nearly 85 years. These choices may or may not be great, but they are made with true heart and honesty and always with the story in mind.”
James knew there would be criticism
James Gunn added, “Nobody likes to be bullied – but, frankly, we’ve been through a lot of bad times. The outrage will never influence our actions. We knew that when we announced Henry Cavill was out, people would be upset, people would be screaming. But these criticisms mean very little to us as artists and patrons to building a broad and wonderful future for DC.”
