The ICC has made it clear that strict action will be taken against Pakistan if it refuses to play as per the scheduled schedule. The PCB has been warned by the World Cricket Organization that breaking the discipline of the tournament may pay a heavy price. According to ICC sources, if Pakistan does not participate, then several disciplinary decisions may be effective against them.
Possible punishments include a complete ban from the T20 World Cup, stoppage of annual revenue from the ICC and a ban from bilateral series. Apart from this, World Test Championship points and ICC rankings can also have a big impact. These decisions can cause serious damage to the future of PCB.
The biggest financial blow could come if the India-Pakistan match is cancelled. Usually these matches generate huge revenue from advertising. A 10 second ad costs between Tk 25 to Tk 40 lakh. A loss of more than 200 crore rupees can be incurred from advertisement alone. The PCB may have to blame the ICC host broadcaster Jio-Star for this loss.
Apart from this, there is a big concern about the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The ICC may ban foreign international players from playing in the PSL, excluding free agents. This will seriously damage the quality and popularity of PSL. If Pakistan are eventually eliminated from the World Cup, Uganda may be given a chance in their place. However, the final decision in this regard will be taken after the ICC board meeting.
