In fact, while talking to Local 18, Dr. Smita Srivastava (BAMS Lucknow University), Medical Officer-in-charge of Government AYUSH Hospital, Shivgarh in Rae Bareli district, says that omega-3 fatty acids, fiber, protein, lignan, calcium, magnesium and antioxidants are found in abundance in flaxseed. This is the reason why it is also called a “superfood”. These elements play an important role in strengthening the body’s immunity.

Beneficial for heart health: According to Smita Srivastava, regular consumption of flaxseed helps in controlling cholesterol. The Omega-3 fatty acids present in it keep the heart arteries healthy and balance blood pressure. This can reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke.

Keep the digestive system healthy: Flaxseed contains both soluble and insoluble fiber, which provides relief from problems like constipation, gas and indigestion. Consuming flaxseed on an empty stomach in the morning improves intestinal cleansing and strengthens the digestive system. Also, flaxseed allows the blood sugar level to increase gradually, due to which it is considered beneficial for diabetic patients. Also, the fiber present in it gives a feeling of keeping the stomach full for a long time, due to which one does not feel hungry again and again and the weight remains controlled.

Special benefits for women: Lignan present in flaxseed helps in maintaining hormonal balance. This can provide relief from period pain, hormonal fluctuations and problems related to menopause. In some research, it has also been considered helpful in reducing the risk of breast cancer.

Beneficial for skin and hair: The antioxidants and fatty acids of flaxseed help in brightening the skin and strengthening the hair. It reduces dryness and can slow down the process of premature wrinkles.

Consume it like this: Flaxseed can be roasted, ground and taken in powder form by mixing it with milk, curd or vegetables. Consuming 1–2 teaspoons of flaxseed daily is considered sufficient.
