Meaning, for countries which do not have rare earth, it is mandatory to import it. China has a monopoly in this sector. Last year, US President Donald Trump started a tariff war. It had an impact on China also. After this, China had tightened its grip on the export of rare earth minerals. Because of this, markets from India to Europe were adversely affected. Now, under the leadership of America, an important step has been taken towards breaking this dominance of China. In this campaign, India has laddus in both hands.

India-America Critical Mineral Partnership: Critical or rare earth minerals are a strategic material. It is used in everything from green energy to electric vehicles and from fighter jets to smartphones. Without this, production of all these is not possible. Last year, in response to US President Donald Trump’s tariff war, China had cracked down on the export of rare earth minerals. This step of Beijing had a bad impact on the auto industry and other industries from India to Europe and America. Let us tell you that China exports more than 90 percent of critical minerals at the global level. The neighboring country has a monopoly in this sector. Now America has taken a strong and meaningful initiative towards breaking this dominance of China. Foreign ministers of 55 countries gathered in Washington on the call of Foreign Minister Marco Rubio. To keep the supply of real earth minerals away from obstacles, a proposal has been made to form a block of 50 countries. India’s role is going to be important in this. From the Indian side, Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar participated in this meeting. The Global Initiative on Rare Earth Minerals is no less than a boon for India. India has reserves of critical minerals. Joining this block will provide technological support from mining to processing of rare earth minerals at the domestic level. On the other hand, dependence on China will also reduce, which will give a significant boost to the domestic industry. This will also give India a strategic edge in the future. Let us tell you that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has mentioned the creation of Rare Earth Minerals Corridor in this time’s budget.

In fact, India has announced its support to the new initiative Forum on Resource Geostrategic Engagement (FORGE) during the first Critical Minerals Ministerial held in America. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar said that this platform is an important step towards making the supply chain of critical minerals safe, diverse and reliable at the global level. Jaishankar has reached Washington on a three-day visit, where he participated in the ministerial meeting organized by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Representatives of more than 50 countries participated in this conference. Jaishankar described it as giving results. He said on ‘X’ that India is working on strengthening the supply chain through initiatives like National Critical Minerals Mission, Rare Earth Corridors and responsible trade. He said the FORGE Initiative is the successor to the US-led Mineral Security Partnership and aims to diversify the production and processing of rare minerals.
