Calcutta : Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday (February 4) confirmed that the Pakistan cricket team will not play a match against India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.

India and Pakistan are in Group A in the upcoming T20 World Cup. The two arch-rivals were scheduled to meet in Colombo on February 15. But Shehbaz Sharif said that Pakistan will not play the match against India. Because they want to stand by Bangladesh. He also claimed that there should be no politics in the playground.

“We have taken a very clear stand on the T20 World Cup. We will not play the match against India. Because there should be no politics in the field of sports,” Sharif told a cabinet meeting in Pakistan on Wednesday.

Shehbaz Sharif’s comments came days after it was reported that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has yet to formally communicate its decision (to boycott the match against India) to the International Cricket Council (ICC).

It is learned that Pakistan will not send an official e-mail to the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding boycotting the match against India in the T20 World Cup.

The ICC is awaiting official communication from the PCB, and the absence of an official message means the ICC will have to wait to decide the next course of action. But it will increase the problem of Pakistan. Already canceling the high-voltage match against India will make them face multiple penalties. On top of that, the PCB has not yet officially informed the ICC not to play the match. As a result, even in that case, they may face problems.
