Tooth Loss in Old Age: With increasing age, most people’s teeth start becoming weak. Many people’s teeth fall out at the age of 60-65 and they have to get artificial teeth fitted. According to doctors, the reasons for falling teeth are lack of cleanliness and some diseases. If you take proper care, your teeth can remain strong even in old age.

The biggest reason for falling teeth in old age is gum disease.
Why Do Teeth Fall Out in Old Age: Many changes occur in the body with increasing age. After the age of 40-45, people’s bones start becoming weak and its effect is also visible on the teeth. It is often seen that after the age of 60-65, most of the people’s teeth start moving or get dislocated. People ignore it considering it to be an effect of age. However, according to doctors, falling teeth is not an effect of age, rather it is caused by some diseases. If teeth are taken proper care and treated on time, teeth can be kept strong even for 100 years.
Dr. Vaibhav Gulati, dentist of Gulati Dental and Aesthetic Clinic, Pitampura, Delhi told News18. The biggest reason for falling teeth in old age is gum disease, which is called periodontal disease. In this condition, the gums become weak and start separating from the teeth and the teeth become loose. Plaque and tartar accumulated on the teeth over a long period of time causes swelling and infection in the gums, which also weakens the jaw bone. If it is not treated in time, teeth fall out. This often happens to people, but they ignore it considering it to be an effect of age.
Teeth also become weak due to lack of cleaning.
The dentist said that not cleaning the teeth properly, not brushing twice a day and not using floss also gradually damages the teeth. Apart from this, consumption of tobacco, cigarettes and excessive alcohol makes gum disease serious. Excessive sweet and sour foods also weaken the tooth enamel, due to which the teeth become weak quickly. If your age is more than 40-50, then take more care of your teeth. In case of any problem, consult a dentist.
Ways to keep teeth strong even in old age
According to Dr. Gulati, to keep teeth strong throughout life, everyone should brush with fluoride toothpaste twice daily. Flossing regularly removes food particles stuck between the teeth and prevents bacteria from growing. Use of mouthwash also helps in reducing the harmful germs present in the mouth. Apart from this, it is necessary to go to the dentist and get checked once every 6 months. Due to this, problems of teeth and gums are detected at the initial stage itself. Periodic cleaning reduces the swelling of the gums and keeps the grip of the teeth strong.
It is also very important to improve eating habits
According to experts, good eating habits are also very important to keep teeth strong as we age. Include calcium-rich foods like milk, curd and green vegetables in your diet. These things strengthen teeth and bones. Drinking adequate amount of water maintains saliva in the mouth, which provides natural protection to the teeth. With the right routine, balanced diet and regular checkups, teeth can be kept healthy and strong till old age.
