The executive order states that India has committed to stop importing oil directly or indirectly from Russia and has agreed to buy energy products from the US.

What was said in the order?

The order signed by Donald Trump clearly reads, ‘India has committed that it will stop importing oil directly or indirectly from the Russian Federation, will purchase energy products from the US and has also agreed to a framework to increase defense cooperation with the US for the coming 10 years.’

Along with this, the order also said that on the basis of information and recommendations received from senior officials, the President has concluded that India has taken important steps in the context of the national emergency related to the Russia-Ukraine war and has adequately coordinated with the US in national security, foreign policy and economic matters.

This executive order also refers to Executive Order 14066, issued in March 2022, which is related to the prohibition of certain imports and investments related to Russia in view of harming the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
