Afghanistan: New Zealand will face Afghanistan in the fourth match of T20 World Cup 2026. Rashid Khan’s side had a heavy stake in this match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, as Afghanistan had thrashed New Zealand by 84 runs in the previous T20 World Cup encounter.

This win against Afghanistan is historic for New Zealand. Never before in the history of T20 World Cup has a Kiwi team chased such a big target and won. Not only that, it is also the biggest run chase against Afghanistan in T20 International cricket.
Opener Tim Seifert’s contribution was crucial in this memorable victory. He played a brilliant innings of 65 runs off 42 balls. Tim Seifert was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’ for this outstanding performance.
After the defeat against New Zealand, the road ahead for Afghanistan was not easy. Rashid Khan’s side are in Group-D, where they face South Africa, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Canada. This group is considered the most difficult. Because there are strong teams like Afghanistan, New Zealand and South Africa. Out of these three teams, only two teams will make it to the Super-8.
