Karachi : Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Amin ul Islam has arrived in Lahore ahead of the virtual meeting to be held between Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and ICC. The meeting has been called to resolve the ongoing issue surrounding Pakistan’s proposal to boycott the T20 World Cup matches against India.
Former cricketer Amin has met PCB president Mohsin Naqvi in Lahore and is expected to take part in the virtual talks, which are aimed at persuading Pakistan to reconsider its decision not to play India in the T20 World Cup scheduled for February 15.
Naqvi did not comment much on the government’s order to boycott matches against India. However, the situation has started to change after Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) sent an e-mail to the PCB, a reliable source said. The e-mail requested the withdrawal of the boycott.
Meanwhile, ICC CEO Sanjog Gupta visited Colombo and met SLC President Shammi Silva. Shammi Silva also sent Naqvi an e-mail requesting him to play a match against India in the World Cup.
The ICC has already sought an explanation from Pakistan on how the rule of ‘force majeure’ (inability to fulfill the terms of the agreement due to unavoidable or unavoidable reasons) can be applied. Pakistan wanted to justify its decision to refuse to play a T20 World Cup match against India through this rule. Because the PCB tried to shift the responsibility on the government to avoid the situation.
Now there is a glimmer of hope as the PCB has approached the ICC for talks. An ICC director has revealed this information and believes that this big match will be held eventually. The ICC is currently in systematic discussions with the Board to find possible solutions, based on the understanding that the interests of the game should prevail over unilateral action.
