AIIMS New Delhi 10000 surgeries: Recently, another big achievement has been added to the name of AIIMS, which has come sixth among the top 10 hospitals of the world. The surgery block of this hospital has completed more than 10 thousand major surgeries in a year. Not only this, this is the first hospital in India where robotic kidney transplant surgery is performed and more than a dozen such complex surgeries are successfully performed, which are difficult to get at one place in any other hospital.

The special thing about this achievement is that many types of surgeries are performed in the same department. In the surgery block, surgeries like general surgery, stomach and intestinal surgery, hormone related surgery, chest surgery, colon and rectum surgery, obesity reduction surgery, vein surgery, breast surgery and complex organ transplant are performed.

All these surgeries are done through open surgery, laparoscopic, minimally invasive and robotic techniques. A major achievement of the year 2025 was the introduction of robotic kidney transplant surgery. With this, AIIMS Delhi became the first government hospital in the country where this modern technology is available. Due to this, state-of-the-art treatment in the government health system has reached the common people.

Let us tell you that AIIMS is considered to be the institute that laid the foundation of transplant surgery in India. Over the past several decades, doctors here have played a key role in starting transplant programs across the country and have provided training and technical support to many government hospitals. Even today, the transplant program of AIIMS is one of the most active and effective programs in the country.

Along with treatment, the surgery department also plays an important role in medical education. This is the largest surgical teaching department of AIIMS, where a large number of MBBS, postgraduate and super-specialty doctors are trained every year. The knowledge generated here is shared across the organization, leading to continuous improvement.

Professor Sunil Chambar, head of the surgery department, said that AIIMS had established the Surgical Skills and Simulation Lab in 2006 itself, which was a new initiative in the government sector at that time. This center has trained surgeons from all over India in laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgeries, thereby promoting safe surgeries across the country.

Chambar further said, ‘Performing more than 10,000 major surgeries in a year is not just a matter of numbers, but it shows how effective the government health system can be when good policies, strong infrastructure and skilled doctors come together. The best part is that all this has been done while maintaining a high level of safety and quality.
