Pakistan: ICC has reportedly promised some concessions to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to withdraw the match boycott against India.
Calcutta : ICC has reportedly promised some concessions to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to withdraw its match boycott against India. According to a source, they will be officially announced after the T20 World Cup is over.
A PCB source told PTI on Tuesday, “The concessions received by the ICC from the ICC to withdraw the boycott will be made public only after the T20 World Cup is over.”
The ICC, meanwhile, has announced that no disciplinary action will be taken against the Bangladesh Cricket Board and they will also be tasked with organizing an ICC event in the 2028-2031 cycle (probably the U-19 Men’s World Cup).
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif announced that the Pakistan national team will boycott the T20 World Cup group league match against India on February 15 in Colombo at the request of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). They were replaced by another team after the BCB refused to play matches in India citing security concerns.
However, the boycott ended on Monday night after several rounds of negotiations. A source said, “Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake was instrumental in lifting the phone boycott. Now the PCB has been given the nod to allow Pakistan to play when India-Pakistan meet again in the next round of the World Cup.”
“There is now a clear understanding between the ICC and Naqvi that the details of discussions with the PCB, BCB and other boards will not be disclosed,” the source added. The ICC statement on Monday confirmed that no disciplinary action will be taken against Bangladesh for their position. However, there was no mention of what the PCB would get in return for ending the deadlock.
He added that during the discussion, Naqvi argued that since India-Pakistan were playing in other ICC white-ball tournaments, there should be no bar in the ICC World Test Championship to play home-and-away matches at neutral venues. But there is a complication—only the WTC final is a direct ICC event, while all other series are bilateral, where points are awarded.
