This is the first time in the history of Ranji Trophy that a batsman has been dismissed for 299 runs. Sudeep of Bengal wrote such a record next to his name.
He returned to the pavilion clean bowled in the first innings on the fourth day of the match against Andhra Pradesh. Sudeep Kumar Gharami batted brilliantly for Bengal in the first innings of the Ranji Trophy quarter-final match against Andhra Pradesh. He scored 299 runs off 596 balls with 31 fours and 6 sixes. He missed the triple century by just 1 run and was dismissed for 299 runs.
This is the first time such an incident has happened in the Ranji Trophy. A batsman was dismissed for just 1 run before making a triple century. Earlier, Shantanu Sugwekar was not out on 299 runs. This Maharashtra batsman scored 299 runs against Madhya Pradesh in 1988–89 season.
This time Sudeep Kumar Gharami made a record by getting out on the same score. Sudeep came to bat for Bengal on the second day and scored 150 runs off 270 balls on the third day. After that, he completed a double century off 415 balls. He hit 31 fours and 6 sixes in this long innings.
Bengal’s innings ended with 629 runs. As of writing this report, Andhra Pradesh scored 64 runs for the loss of 3 wickets.
