Dr. Shubham Vatsya, senior gastroenterologist and hepatologist, Fortis Hospital, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi, told in a recent podcast. That this thing spread about soya is completely wrong. Eating soya does not increase estrogen in men nor does it cause gynecomastia. According to him, soy does not cause man boobs. Men can eat soya daily and there is no problem in it. The doctor says that due to incomplete information spread on the internet, people have started fearing soya without any scientific basis. People do not need to be afraid of this.
The doctor told that elements called isoflavones are found in soy, which are also called phytoestrogens. These are compounds obtained from plants, whose structure is similar to human estrogen, but their effect is much milder. Consuming soy in normal amounts does not have any negative effect on men’s testosterone or other hormones. Therefore, it is completely wrong to believe that soya directly increases breasts in men.
Experts said that soya is considered an excellent protein source for vegetarian people. It is a ‘complete protein’ and contains all the essential amino acids. For athletes, gym goers and people who do not eat non-veg, soya can be helpful in muscle strength and recovery. Doctors say that regular consumption of soya in balanced quantities is safe and beneficial.
