Abhishek is suffering from stomach infection. He had to be hospitalized for two days after complaining of high fever and abdominal pain. Abhishek was discharged from a hospital in Delhi on Wednesday, but a day later, when the Indian team was practicing in Kotla, he did not participate in the session as he was still weak.

Abhishek has also lost some weight and due to a severe stomach infection, it takes time to recover and rebuild the strength and endurance needed to compete at the highest level. According to a PTI report, Abhishek’s training session in Colombo will serve as an important gauge of his preparation. If he can bat for a longer period of time in regular net sessions, it could be taken as a sign that he is fit to return.
