Sodium is essential for the body, but this does not mean that you should include excessive amount of salt in your diet in a day. This will lead to loss instead of profit. Both Ayurveda and modern science believe that salt is both necessary and harmful. In such a situation, it should be consumed within limits. Know here how much salt you should take in a day, how much salt acts like poison for the body and how much salt should be consumed every day?

It is because of the spices present in the kitchen that food gets the right taste and health, but excess of anything has adverse effects on health. In today’s lifestyle, the number of people fond of spicy and fried food is high and they do not know that sodium is being used indiscriminately in everything from flour to bread. Knowingly or unknowingly we are consuming more salt than required and will be responsible for future diseases.
Salt, which enhances taste, gradually starts dissolving in the body like poison and becomes a part of everyday habit. Both Ayurveda and modern science agree that salt is both necessary and harmful, just within limits. Today we will tell you how much salt acts like poison for the body and how much salt can be consumed daily.
According to WHO, consuming 5 grams of salt daily is beneficial. 5 grams means approximately 1 teaspoon. This quantity has been decided by combining both common salt and hidden sodium of packaged food. People who take food two or three times a day should also balance their diet according to 5 grams only. On the contrary, in the Indian lifestyle, 10-12 grams of salt is taken daily, which is double the daily norm and this is the reason why prolonged consumption leads to high blood pressure, excessive thinning of blood, weakening of bones, swelling on the body, increase in uric acid, excessive burden on the kidneys, lack of water in the body and premature wrinkles start appearing on the face.
Now let us know when and how to use salt. First, always avoid using whole white salt. Mix some rock salt in salt and consume it. Secondly, do not use salt and spices in salad or fruits. Due to this, the amount of salt in the body exceeds the prescribed limit.
Third, avoid eating salty foods at night as it can cause swelling on the face in the morning. Fourth, avoid white salt even in curd or lassi. Instead of this, add small amount of salt and cumin seeds. People who suffer from cough should reduce their intake of curd and salt.
