For 20 years now, Ashok Chowdhury has been making different flavors of Singara next to the Maha Crematorium in Kaliaganj’s Shanti Colony. 57-year-old Ashok Chowdhury, a resident of Shanti Colony, is making about 3-4 types of singara every day.

The shrimp bag includes coconut shrimp, garlic shrimp, almond shrimp, and cheese shrimp. As per the demand of the customer, Ashok or Nemeshe makes this singada of different types and flavors. Ashok says, “There are 3-4 varieties of singara available in the shop. Garlic and vegetarian coconut singara are the best sellers.” He also said, “Singara has been selling in Kaliaganj’s Shanti Colony for 20 years. Various types of singara are available in the shop, starting from 6 taka to 10 taka.”

Locals say that people from Kolkata, Malda, Siliguri buy the clothes from his shop for their homes. This singara is made entirely of homemade batter masala. His wife Rina Chowdhury is equally helpful in his business. Rina said, “I have been helping my husband to make singara for many years. There is such a demand for this singara in the shop that people from outside come to eat at our shop. We also like them.”
