KOLKATA: Indian Railways’ decision to introduce additional train stops at 82 stations in Assam, West Bengal and Bihar under the North East Frontier Railway has been widely applauded by commuters and local residents. In urban and rural areas where rail connectivity plays an important role in daily life, people have expressed joy for increased access to mail/express and premium trains.

At Dhemaji railway station, the introduction of stoppage of Train No. 20505/20506 Dibrugarh-New Delhi-Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express was described as a historic milestone by the public. Similarly, Train No. 20503/20504 Dibrugarh-New Delhi-Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express has been given a new stop at Sibsagar Town Railway Station, bringing pride and excitement to the residents. A large number of people turned up to witness the fast stop of the prestigious Rajdhani Express, celebrated the moment by distributing sweets and welcoming the train with flowers and applause. There were scenes of jubilation at the station, with people expressing pride at establishing a direct link with the National Capital. The sentiment echoed across the region that premium connectivity, once available only at major junctions, now reached their doorsteps.

The stoppage of Train No. 15603/15604 Guwahati-Lidu-Guwahati Intercity Express at Kamarbandha Ali Railway Station and Train No. 15467/15468 Siliguri-Bamanhat-Siliguri Express at Kalchini Railway Station has created excitement among daily commuters and tea gardeners. At New Cooch Behar, the inaugural stop of Train No. 22449 Guwahati-New Delhi Express was celebrated with joy and festivity, with passengers welcoming the train with flowers and expressing gratitude for improved long-distance connectivity.

In Lower Assam, the stoppage of Train No. 12346/12345 (Guwahati-Howrah-Guwahati) Saraighat Express at Goalpara Town railway station has been hailed as a transformative step. Residents said that providing direct access to an important intercity link between Assam and West Bengal would significantly reduce travel hassles. At Nalbari station, the inclusion of important train stops like the Shilghat Town-Tambaram Express and Lalgarh-Dibrugarh Avadh Assam Express further fueled public sentiment. Similarly, passengers and local residents warmly welcomed Train No. 15769/15770 Alipurduar Junction – Moriyoni Junction – Alipurduar Junction Intercity Express after its halt at Sarupeta Railway Station, expressing appreciation for improved connectivity and enhanced travel facilities.

Across all these stations, there is a sense of gratitude and a common passion for the people, who see the additional stops not only as improved transportation facilities but as recognition of their aspirations and growing regional importance.
