Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly doesn’t consider the arch-rival India-Pakistan match as a “big match” anymore. After India’s 61-run win over Pakistan in the group stage match, Sourav Ganguly said, “The intense rivalry and excitement that was once there is no longer there as the difference in quality between the two teams has become evident.”

The cricket world was waiting to see a bone-headed fight in the India-Pakistan match. Batting first, Ishan Kishan played a blistering innings of 77 runs for India, which set the stage for the team’s big score. Later, in a controlled performance by the bowlers, Pakistan were bowled out for 114 runs in 18 overs chasing a target of 176 runs. This win ensured India’s promotion to the Super Eight.

According to Sourav Ganguly, Pakistan teams in the past under Javed Miandad or Wasim Akram were much stronger, so the matches back then were really big battles. That fight is no more. Now he prefers the matches against Australia, South Africa and England as India’s real big matches.

India have secured the next round with one match to spare but Pakistan have a tough equation ahead of them. They have to beat Namibia in their last group match. On the other hand, India’s last league match is against the Netherlands at the Narendra Modi Stadium on February 18, where the team will look to advance to the next round with a win.
