Eye Exercises and Refractive Error: According to doctors, eye exercises can improve focusing and eye coordination, but permanent refractive error cannot be corrected. The number of glasses depends on the structure of the eye, which cannot be changed by exercise. There is a need to look at such claims wisely.

Vision Training or Medical Myth: Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan claimed on social media that through ‘Eye Workout’ i.e. eye exercises, his number of glasses has reduced to half. This post of Hrithik is going viral on Insta. Hrithik told that at the age of 42, a doctor had told him that the number of glasses is permanent and the eye is not a muscle that can be changed by training. However, he took this as a challenge and later went to Washington DC and did a 5-day vision training program with optometrist Dr. Bryce Applebaum. After 4 hours of training every day, his glasses reduced to half and he had to take a new prescription. A debate has erupted on this claim of Hrithik.
Doctors believe that after the age of 40, many people start having a problem called presbyopia. This is an age related condition in which there is difficulty in reading nearby objects because the focusing ability of the eye starts decreasing. In some cases, exercises related to focusing and eye coordination may provide temporary improvement. It is possible that the actor may have benefited from similar focusing problems, but an actual reduction in permanent refractive error is unlikely. The talk of reducing the number of glasses through this exercise is not completely true.
