Talking to Local 18, Dr Mohammad Iqbal, Ayush Medical Officer, Rampur, says that drinking water while standing suddenly does not make the body ready to accept water. When we drink water rapidly, the body is not able to use it properly. Its effect gradually falls on digestion and other organs.
According to Dr. Iqbal, drinking water while standing can increase stomach related problems. Due to this, complaints of bloating, gas and acidity start occurring. When a person drinks water while sitting comfortably, the intestines absorb it slowly, which improves digestion. But this process gets affected when drinking water while standing. Drinking water while standing can also cause dehydration because the body is not able to store water properly. Many times people feel thirsty frequently.

This habit can also be harmful for heart patients. In some cases, complaint of chest pain may also appear. Ayurveda has also advised to drink water while sitting. According to Ayurveda, drinking water while sitting gives the body time to filter the water and transport it to the right place. This maintains the balance of the body and the organs work better. According to Dr. Iqbal, water should always be drunk while sitting and sipping slowly. This does not put pressure on the stomach and the body gets full benefits. One should also avoid drinking very cold water. This affects digestion. Major diseases can be avoided by changing small habits. If people make a habit of sitting and drinking water, they can get relief from many stomach problems.
