ICL vs LASIK Surgery: High number glasses are removed through ICL surgery. In this surgery, a special lens is implanted inside the eye, due to which patients with myopia, presbyopia and astigmatism do not need to wear glasses. This is especially good for those people whose number of spectacles is very high and it is not possible to do LASIK surgery.

High number glasses are removed through ICL surgery.
All About ICL Surgery: Nowadays, eyes are becoming weak at an early age and there is a need to wear glasses. The number of people wearing glasses is increasing rapidly, but new techniques for removing them are also emerging. By now you must have heard a lot about LASIK surgery to remove glasses. Lakhs of people are getting their glasses removed through Lasik surgery. However, LASIK surgery is not perfect for those people whose number of spectacles is very high or whose cornea is thin. In such a situation, doctors recommend ICL surgery to remove glasses. Today we will learn from the refractive surgeon how glasses are removed in ICL surgery and for whom it can be a better option.
Dr. Tushar Grover, Medical Director of Vision Eye Center, New Delhi told News18. LASIK is the most popular surgery to remove glasses, in which the cornea is reshaped with the help of laser light. This makes people lose their glasses. However, ICL surgery is considered better for people whose glasses number is 8 or more. Many people have glasses number 2-3, but the cornea is thin. In such a situation, it is not possible to do Lasik surgery for those people. Even in such conditions, ICL surgery is advised. ICL surgery is an advanced and safe surgery.
How are glasses removed through ICL surgery?
Doctor Grover told that the full name of ICL is Implantable Collamer Lens. This is a special type of lens, which is implanted inside the eye. This lens is placed between the natural lens and iris of the eye. This lens is made of a special material called Collamer, which is collagen based and is compatible with the eye tissues. This procedure is usually completed in 20 to 30 minutes and does not require stitches. Anesthetic drops are given to numb the eye during surgery, so the patient does not feel pain.
Is this surgery reversible?
According to experts, ICL surgery is done to correct myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. The special thing is that in this surgery, the glasses of patients with high number of glasses are removed and the corneal structure remains safe. If needed, this lens can also be removed from the eye. Because of this this process is considered reversible. Other glasses removal surgeries are not reversible. Before this surgery, detailed examination of the eyes, corneal mapping and depth measurement inside the eye is done, so that the right size lens can be selected. People who have glaucoma or other serious eye diseases are generally not advised to undergo this surgery. Only the doctor takes this decision after examination.
How many days does it take for ICL recovery?
According to ophthalmologists, recovery from ICL surgery is quite fast and many patients start seeing better within 24 to 48 hours. The problem of glare and halo at night may last for some time, but in most cases it gradually subsides. Like any surgery, it also has risks – such as increased eye pressure or infection. However, the procedure performed by an experienced surgeon has fewer complications. After surgery, regular follow-up is necessary for a few months.
