What Is Sepsis In Hindi: Dogs are considered the most loyal friends of humans. They love their owners so much that they become restless when they are not seen, and there is a danger of even going into depression. Dogs show their love in many ways, they play together, sit on your lap and lick. Many people allow their pet dogs to lick themselves to their heart’s content. But do you know that you may have to pay the price for this by losing your hands and legs or even by sacrificing your life?

Something similar has happened with 52 year old British woman Manjit Sangha. Doctors had to amputate his hands and legs to save him, because he had developed a dangerous infection called sepsis. This infection was caused by licking of his dog. During this period he suffered heart attacks several times. Doctors say that it is possible that there may have been a small cut or wound on his hand or leg, which may have been licked by his dog. Through that the infection entered the body and sepsis occurred. (Photo credit- BBC)

What is sepsis?
Sepsis is a serious disease. In this, the body’s immune system starts overreacting to any infection and starts attacking the body’s own organs and tissues. According to the UK Sepsis Trust, around 50,000 people die every year in Britain from sepsis-related causes.

How does sepsis spread?
Sepsis is caused by bacteria, viruses and parasites reaching the blood through wounds. Apart from this, pneumonia, UTI and stomach infection can also cause this fatal disease. In its first stage, this disease causes swelling in the body. Then gradually this swelling hinders the functioning of the organs. In such a situation, even a slight delay in treatment increases the risk of organ failure, heart attack, stroke and death.

Fell ill after playing with pet dog
Manjit Sangha told BBC that it is very difficult for her to understand and accept life after all four limbs are amputated. It all started with her in July last year when she returned home one Sunday feeling sick. Next morning she fell unconscious. His feet were cold, his lips turned blue and he was having trouble breathing. Her husband Kam Sangha told that her health deteriorated very rapidly. He said, “On Saturday she was playing with the dog, on Sunday she went to work and by Monday night she was in a coma.”

Had heart attack 6 times
Due to increasing infection, doctors had to amputate both legs and both arms below the knee. Besides, due to pneumonia and gallstones, his spleen also had to be removed. Now Manjit Sangha is raising funds for prosthetic (advanced artificial organ) and making people aware about the danger of sepsis. She said that now she wants to walk again and return to work.
