Delhi AIIMS has created a new history in the field of robotic surgery. In the country, outside private hospitals one has to undergo difficult surgeries costing up to Rs 10 lakh. At the same time, this surgery is being done completely free of cost in Delhi AIIMS. Here not even a single rupee is taken from the patients or their families. Here, Dr. Sunil Chumber, head of the surgical department, told that when the robot arrived in November 2024, the first surgery was done by Dr. Hemang Bhattacharya. After its arrival, more than 1000 robotic surgeries were successfully completed in just 13 months, leaving AIIMS behind hospitals across the country. Let us tell you that with robotic surgery, complex procedures like stomach, liver, gall bladder, cancer, kidney transplant, thyroid have become easier. There is less risk of infection, less pain, smaller incision, faster recovery and early discharge. At the time of Covid, there were only 2-3 robots, now there are over 200, but AIIMS has set a benchmark in public health. While not yet in emergency, but it is proving to be a boon in planned surgery.
