US President Donald Trump has announced that America is sending a hospital ship to help health services in Greenland. This mission is being run in collaboration with Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry. This step is being considered important amid the recent diplomatic stir regarding Greenland.

Washington: US President Donald Trump made a big announcement on Saturday. He said that America has sent a ship towards Greenland. Although this is not a war ship, but a hospital ship. It was said that America has sent a hospital ship to Greenland. According to Trump, this ship has been sent to meet the medical needs of the people there. Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social that he is working on this mission with Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry. He said that many people in Greenland are sick and they are not getting proper treatment. For this reason a big hospital ship is being sent there and is on its way.
Is there tension regarding Greenland?
A picture of the US Navy hospital ship USNS Mercy was also shared with Trump’s post. This ship is usually used to provide medical aid during war or humanitarian crisis. This step has been taken at a time when diplomatic discussions are already going on between America and Europe regarding Greenland. In December, Trump appointed Governor Jeff Landry as special envoy for the Arctic region. This was considered a sign of American interest in Greenland. Governor Landry also responded on social media, saying he was proud to work with the President on this important issue.
Which health crisis in Greenland?
However, it is not yet clear what kind of health crisis there is in Greenland or how big the scope of this mission will be. The Pentagon, US Navy, Northcom and the Danish Embassy have been contacted, but detailed information has not been released. Last month, Trump also said that he had outlined a possible future agreement regarding Greenland during talks with the NATO chief. Greenland is a semi-autonomous region of Denmark and is considered strategically important in the Arctic. Trump’s decision to send a hospital ship has been presented as humanitarian aid, but it is also being seen as a sign of increasing American activism in the Arctic region.
