A powerful and fast-impact bomb cyclone is severely affecting the north-eastern part of America. Heavy snowfall is occurring from Virginia to Maine and more than 4 crore people are under snow storm warning. Up to two feet of snow may fall in the areas most affected by the storm, while Philadelphia, New York and Boston are likely to receive more than a foot of snowfall. This will be the heaviest snowfall in many places in the last several decades.

Due to this storm in the north-eastern part of America, travel was banned in many cities, schools were closed and thousands of flights had to be cancelled. The effects of heavy snowfall and strong winds were seen from Washington to Boston. The National Weather Service has called it a major winter storm for the Northeast. According to the Meteorological Department, there will be heavy snowfall in the northern Mid-Atlantic and north-eastern areas till Monday.

State of emergency in New York

An overnight travel ban is in place in the city and schools have been closed due to the possibility of snowfall. This is the city’s first official snow day since 2019, when everything was closed.
At some places, two to three inches of snow was expected to fall in an hour. Total snowfall may be up to two feet in many areas. Due to this, the situation can become such that traveling is almost impossible.

Due to bad weather and white haze conditions, public transport has been halted, travel restrictions are in place in many places and people have been warned to stay off the roads. Nearly 8,000 flights have been canceled so far, most of which were to and from New York City airports. Snow storm warning has been issued in many parts. The New York City Meteorological Department has called it a historic snow storm. Travel was banned in New York City from 9 pm Sunday to noon Monday.

Mayor Zoharan Mamdani said that New York City has not faced a storm of this scale in the last ten years. We are asking New Yorkers to avoid all non-essential travel. City schools will also remain closed. This will be the first traditional snow day after 2019.

Advisory issued at many places

In New Jersey also, travel was banned from 9 pm. Whereas in Rhode Island, people were asked not to go out on the streets after 7 pm. As the storm intensified, many states declared emergency. Up to two feet of snow is expected in Boston and much of eastern Massachusetts. The wind speed here can reach up to 75 miles per hour. The Boston Meteorological Department has described it as a historic and devastating storm. There is a possibility of several inches of wet snow falling in the capital Washington DC also. The weather service warned that strong coastal winds could cause coastal flooding from Delaware to Cape Cod. About 54 million people from the central Appalachians to coastal Maine were under blizzard warnings in the storm’s path.
