Paris: There has been a major upheaval in diplomatic relations between Europe and America. The French Foreign Ministry has slammed US Ambassador Charles Kushner. On Monday, France’s top diplomat requested that Ambassador Kushner no longer be given direct access to members of the French government. This step was taken when Kushner refused to attend an important meeting. In fact, the French government had summoned him to discuss the comments made by the Trump administration on the murder of a right-wing activist. But Paris seems quite angry due to Kushner’s absence.

How did the ambassador’s absence worsen the situation?

French officials called Kushner on Monday evening to the ‘Quai d’Orsay’, where the French Foreign Ministry is located. According to diplomatic sources, despite invitation being sent, the American ambassador did not reach there. Expressing strong objection to this behavior, Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot took steps to limit Kushner’s access. Barrot said the ambassador has the honor of representing his country, but perhaps he has failed to understand the basic expectations of an ambassador’s mission. However, the ministry has not completely closed the doors of negotiations. He said ambassadors can still perform their duties and come to the ministry to resolve differences.

After all, which dispute increased the distance between the two countries?

The root of this entire controversy is the death of right-wing activist Quentin Derenc. Derenc died this month after suffering serious head injuries during a fight in the city of Lyon. The incident took place during a student meeting, where a Left MP was the keynote speaker. After this incident, the Anti-Terrorism Bureau of the US State Department posted a statement on social media. It said that Derenk was murdered by leftist militants, which is a matter of concern. The American Embassy also shared this statement on social media. France did not like America’s interference and comment in its internal affairs.

Why did France give strict warning to America?

French Foreign Minister Barrot has reacted sharply to this incident. He said in clear words that he did not accept the grief of a French family and the political use of this tragedy. He said, ‘We do not need to learn lessons from anyone, especially not from the international reactionary movement on the issue of violence.’ France is going through a period of deep political tension ahead of next year’s presidential elections. In such a situation, France feels that America’s statement on ‘leftist extremism’ is an attack on its security and sovereignty. America had said in its statement that it would monitor the situation and wants to see the criminals brought to justice.

This is not the first time that there has been a rift between Charles Kushner and France. Earlier in August also, Kushner was summoned when he wrote a letter to President Emmanuel Macron. In that letter it was alleged that France was not taking adequate steps to deal with anti-Semitism. Even at that time the Ambassador himself did not come to the meeting and he sent one of his representatives. This repeated indifference has now forced France to take strict action.
