UN What happened in the United Nations?

  • On 24 February 2026, a proposal named ‘Support for Lasting Peace in Ukraine’ was brought in the United Nations (UNGA).
  • In this, Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity were supported. Also, immediate, complete and unconditional ceasefire was demanded from Russia.
  • Out of 193 member countries, 107 voted in its favor. 12 countries protested and 51 abstained.
  • Those who voted in favor included Israel, several EU countries and others.
  • Countries like Russia, Belarus, North Korea, Iran were in protest. Among those who abstained from voting were countries like America, India, China, Brazil, UAE, Hungary and Kazakhstan.

How America surprised
What is most surprising is America’s distance from Ukraine’s proposal in the UN. However, India also kept itself away from this voting. But this step of India does not surprise as much as America has surprised. Because India’s stand has been the same since the beginning – neutral and independent. India never supported any one party. India has been in favor of peace from the beginning. India has adopted a neutral stance in this war since the beginning. But America has supported Ukraine at every step. Be it money or weapons, Ukraine has received help from America in every way. But this time when America decided to stay away on Ukraine’s proposal.

Trump’s shock to Zelensky

America demanded separate voting on some paragraphs of the resolution, but it was rejected. Before this, America had also voted against a resolution in favor of Ukraine a month ago. This stance of Trump is a shock for Zelensky, because America has been the biggest supporter of Ukraine. At the same time, Putin will be happy, because America’s abstention from voting strengthens Russia’s position.

India and Israel have different stances

Another special thing in this voting is that America’s ally Israel has supported Ukraine. Yes, Israel separated from America and voted in favor of the resolution. Israeli Ambassador Danny Danon said that the interests of the two countries are different. At the same time, India has kept itself apart on this proposal. That means India kept distance from voting. India has been neutral in this war since the beginning. India believes that the war should be resolved through negotiations and not through unilateral proposals. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken to Putin and Zelensky several times and appealed for peace. like india China has also adopted the same strategy.
