Kolkata: Death match against West Indies on Sunday. As per PTI report, this match will be played on the same pitch where more than 200 runs were scored in the match between Scotland and Italy. Scotland scored 207 runs against Italy. However, Italy were bowled out for 134 runs.
According to the report, Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Sourav Ganguly visited the pitch on Friday (February 22), two days before the match. Saurabh held detailed discussions with Eden Gardens Chief Curator Sujan Mukherjee and Board Chief Curator Ashish Bhowmik, after which the entire grounds were covered.
Sujan Mukherjee told PTI “Sourav seemed happy with the pitch preparation. The pitch that was used for the second match of the World Cup. It’s a typical Eden wicket, with lots of runs, and something for the bowlers.”
Sujan Mukherjee also warned that dew could play a major role later in the evening. While India will play their first match of this edition at the Eden Gardens, the West Indies are a little more familiar as they have already won two group stage matches against Scotland and Italy at the venue.
If the pitch is suitable for the players, then India will not mind it. Slower, gripping tracks have been a major problem, dominated by opposition spinners and variation-loving pacers. However, Kolkata has seen some tension between the CAB and the Indian team over the pitch in the past. CAB does not want that incident.
