The escalating tensions between Iran, Israel and the US in the Middle East will have an impact on the T20 World Cup as well. The West Indies cricket team is still not able to return to the country after leaving the World Cup. The team is currently based in Kolkata. International flights have been disrupted mainly due to the closure of air routes in West Asia and the temporary closure of Dubai International Airport. As a result, the Caribbean cricketers’ plans to return home at the scheduled time have failed.

The Zimbabwe cricket team is also facing the same problem. They too are currently stuck in Delhi after being knocked out of the Super Eights stage of the T20 World Cup. It is not possible for the team to return to the country until the air traffic is normalized. Sources said that the players and support staff have been asked to stay at the hotel while waiting for the situation to normalize and security is being looked into.

The cricketers and officials of the two teams are a bit worried about the uncertainty created due to the international situation, but regular communication is being maintained with the boards. Authorities said alternative flights would be arranged as soon as the airspace opens. Until then, priority is given to players’ rest and safety.
