Plane Crash: A major accident was averted in New York on Monday night when a plane taking off from Long Island crashed into the frozen Hudson River while attempting an emergency landing. It is a matter of relief that both the pilot and the passenger on board the plane miraculously saved their lives and swam in the icy water and reached the safe shore. According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), there were two people on board the Cessna 172 single-engine plane. This accident happened on the eastern side of New York Stuart International Airport at around 8 pm. It is being told that the plane took off from MacArthur Airport, Ronkonkoma, Long Island at around 6:55 pm and crashed about an hour later.

These things came to light in the reports regarding the plane crash…

  1. The plane had just reached the southern part of the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge when suddenly it had a power problem.
  2. After engine failure, the pilot tried to make an emergency landing, but the plane fell directly into the Hudson River.
  3. Initially after the accident, the rescue teams could not find the exact location of the plane. Later he was traced in Newburgh area.
  4. Pictures released by the Middle Hope Fire Department showed the plane half-submerged among floating ice rocks in the Hudson River.
  5. The pilot and passengers were conscious even after the collision. Both of them immediately decided to get out of the plane and despite the freezing cold, swam in the icy water to reach the shore.

  7. The FAA and related agencies are currently investigating this accident. According to initial information, engine failure could be a major reason for the accident. However, the real reason will become clear only after detailed investigation.

Thankfully, the pilot and passenger of this single-engine plane that made a snowy landing near Newburgh have been found safe. Both have suffered only minor injuries. This safe landing on the Hudson is another miracle – Kathy Hochul, Governor of New York

What is the Miracle on the Hudson that Governor Hochul mentioned?
It is noteworthy that Governor Hochul referred to the famous ‘Miracle on the Hudson’ accident of 2009, when a passenger plane landed in the Hudson River after both engines failed soon after takeoff and all 160 people on board were saved safely. According to US MP Pat Ryan, his office is keeping an eye on this incident. He said that he is in constant touch with the local authorities and both the passengers have been safely taken out of the water.
