Being exposed to excessive noise has a negative impact on health.
Noise Pollution Effects on Health: Nowadays, along with the hustle and bustle, another thing has got mixed into life and that is noise. Many researches show that noise pollution around us is not only increasing rapidly but is also becoming a part of our lives. This problem is very common especially in the houses and offices built on the roadside in metro cities. People may be getting used to living in more noise than before, but this thing is bringing 5 dangerous changes in the body.
Dr. Deepti Sinha, Chief Consultant ENT, CK Birla Hospital, Delhi It says that in rapidly growing cities, young people are constantly exposed to noise, whether it is the office environment or the streets outside. Noise pollution means loud or irritating noises that come from traffic, construction work, machines or crowded places. With the expansion of cities and increasing noise in workplaces, it is becoming a major health problem.
City noise is not just an inconvenience, but it affects both the body and mind. Constantly listening to loud noises increases stress in the body. This can increase stress hormones, increase blood pressure and in the long run can also increase the risk of heart diseases. Its effect is more on the youth working in open offices, factories or areas with high traffic.
The biggest impact of noise is on sleep. People living in areas where the noise level is more than 65 decibels are often unable to sleep well. It is common to wake up repeatedly at night, feel tired and lethargic throughout the day. Poor sleep increases stress and irritability and also reduces work capacity.
Continuous exposure to noise can also reduce hearing ability. Prolonged exposure to noise above 70 decibels can damage the delicate nerves inside the ear. This may lead to gradual hearing loss or a whistling sound in the ears (tinnitus).
Apart from this, continuous noise also affects brain concentration and mood. Prolonged exposure to noise can increase anxiety and reduce quality of life.
To avoid this problem, it is necessary to take steps like better planning of cities, less noisy environment in office, soundproofing at home and regular health checkups.
