India reached the final with a huge 68-run victory and later beat South Africa to win the World Cup.

In 1987, the ICC ODI World Cup, then known as the ‘Reliance World Cup’, hosted the semi-finals of the tournament. India was the defending champion then. In that match England made 254 runs for 6 wickets based on Graham Gooch’s century. The Indian team led by Kapil Dev was bowled out for 219 runs.

Another interesting aspect of the semi-final between India and England is that the team that has won the match so far has gone on to win the World Cup. Therefore, the importance of this match has increased. History tells us that a semi-final victory often paves the way to a championship.

India is slightly ahead in the statistics of the two teams facing each other in T-20 World Cup. So far India have won three of the five matches and England have won two.
